UNITY TWP, Pa. Pittsburgh Steelers head coach Mike Tomlin was not shy to sing praise to Aaron Rodgers and DK Metcalf after the duo connected on a touchdown pass at Friday’s practice.

“That’s what I anticipate,” he said. “You know, I’m not going to throw a pep rally. That’s what I expect. That’s what I envisioned all summer.”

Tomlin also loves watching his defensive backs matchup with Metcalf at practice. It’s a classic example of iron sharpens iron.

“I want to see all of those guys compete. You know, everybody is going to get their shot at a guy like that,” Tomlin said. “I’m sure Jalen [Ramsey] feels the same way. I’m sure [Darius] Slay feels the same way. I’m sure DK feels the same way. That’s what’s great about a camp environment where we’re practicing good on good, and we take the iron-on-iron principle to getting better.”

Metcalf, Rodgers, and offensive coordinator Arthur Smith are all new to one another. Tomlin expects good and bad days with the new group.

“It’s going to ebb and flow,” Tomlin said. “I don’t ride the emotional roller coaster on day two. We’re going to keep snapping it.”

Metcalf abused Porter to the tune of five catches for 106 yards in Porter’s rookie season in 2023. Getting a healthy dose of Metcalf at training camp will only make the young cornerback better.

Metcalf lining up against All-Pro cornerback Jalen Ramsey is also a must-watch.

Tomlin said he expects Ramsey to line up all over.

“Get your cameras ready,” he said. “You’re going to see him in a lot of places.”
