Pittsburgh Steelers president Art Rooney II doesn’t foresee Mike Tomlin coaching in the near future. It seems the now-former longtime leader of the black and gold wants to spend more time with his family.
It’s hard to beat an open job with the reigning Associated Press NFL MVP as its headliner, however. The Buffalo Bills fired head coach Sean McDermott on Monday morning, two days after his team fell short of the AFC Championship game with an overtime loss against the Denver Broncos.
One sportsbook believes Tomlin could be back in a headset — in upstate New York — pretty quickly. According to betonline.ag, Tomlin has the second-highest odds to take over for the Bills (+350), behind only former Miami Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel (+300).
Steelers head coaching candidates Brian Flores (+700), Jeff Hafley (12/1), Mike McCarthy (14/1), Anthony Weaver (16/1), Chris Shula (22/1) and Jesse Minter (25/1) are also listed.
The others in the mix are Brian Daboll (+400), Joe Brady (+500), Klint Kubiak (+800), Davis Webb (+900), Robert Saleh (10/1), Vance Joseph (18/1), Jim Schwartz (20/1), Lou Anarumo (33/1), Kilff Kingsbury (40/1), Anthony Campanile (40/1), Ryan Wendell (40/1), Matt Nagy (45/1) and Mike LaFleur (45/1).
Tomlin was spotted at his daughter’s gymnastics meet at the University of Georgia on Friday night. He stepped down as the Steelers’ head coach last Tuesday, just hours after another playoff failure.
