With the Pittsburgh Steelers improving to 9-6 after a win over the Detroit Lions on Sunday, head coach Mike Tomlin has clinched his 19th consecutive non-losing season.

It’s also the Steelers’ 22nd consecutive non-losing season, which is an NFL record. The Steelers surpassed Tom Landry’s Dallas Cowboys (1965-1985) for the record.

The Steelers finished 8-8 four times over the past two decades (2006, 2012, 2013 and 2018). The next-longest streak of non-losing seasons is 19 by the New England Patriots. New England never had a below .500 season during their two separate dynasty eras from 2001 to 2019.

Tomlin holds the NFL record for the most consecutive non-losing seasons to start a coaching career.

Only Tom Landry (21) has more consecutive seasons without a losing record than Tomlin’s 19. Tomlin also tied Bill Belichick’s 19 consecutive non-losing seasons. Landry had five consecutive losing seasons to start his career with the Cowboys, while Belichick had losing seasons in Cleveland and in his first season in New England.

Since 1972, the Steelers have 42 winning seasons, seven losing seasons and five .500 seasons.

While the Steelers’ non-losing season streak is impressive and speaks to the Pittsburgh’s consistency, the organization’s main goal is to win playoff games and ultimately a Super Bowl this season. The Steelers are currently on a eight-year playoff win drought. The longest playoff win drought since pre-1972.

The Steelers currently sit atop of the AFC North at 9-6. The Baltimore Ravens (7-7) are on their heels, however. The Ravens host the New England Patriots on Sunday Night Football.

The Steelers have won three straight games after the embarrassing 26-7 loss to the Buffalo Bills at Acrisure Stadium in Week 13. Things were so bad that”Fire Tomlin” chants erupted from the crowed during the game. The fans also booed “Renegade.”

Tomlin has done a good job to get the season back on track. However, success in the playoffs and winning a Super Bowl is the ultimate goal.
