Heading into the season, the Miami Dolphins stood out as a team that was worth keeping a close eye on. After falling short of expectations and missing the playoffs in 2024, Mike McDaniel’s job security came into question. Some wondered if he had begun to lose the locker room.

After a 1-4 start to their season, which most recently included allowing a 17-0 lead to turn into a late loss, Dolphins coaching rumors have dramatically increased. Yet, the Dolphins’ front office hasn’t flinched. So, what gives?

According to ESPN’s NFL reporter Adam Schefter, Dolphins fans shouldn’t hold their breath on McDaniel getting fired any time soon.

“I don’t get the sense that a coaching change will be happening anytime soon,” Schefter said.

The Dolphins are one of the worst teams in the NFL right now, and Sunday’s loss to the Panthers reinforces where Miami is right now as a franchise. They’re a bad team ranking in the bottom tier of scoring and points allowed, which is never a recipe for success, at any level of football.

Ultimately, it’s up to the Dolphins to decide whether McDaniel is truly the right person to lead their organization. Miami was infatuated with his unique characteristics early on, but that’s when the Dolphins won nine and 11 games in his first two seasons.

He only managed to win eight last season, and now the Dolphins are on track for their worst season yet in the McDaniel era. Which, again, it not a positive sign for his job security, but there’s plenty of time to get this thing turned around.
