A couple of high-profile coaching candidates were in the news today regarding the Bears.
News about the Chicago Bears head coach search has been flying since Monday, but earlier tonight, there were a couple of high-profile names mentioned in reports.
ESPN’s Adam Schefter reported that the Dallas Cowboys denied Chicago’s request to interview Mike McCarthy, who is still technically their head coach. McCarthy's contract expires on January 14, but if the Cowboys don’t extend him by next Tuesday, he is free to talk with any team he chooses, so he could revisit the Bears' interview request. McCarthy has said his top choice would be to stay in Dallas, so I expect a deal to be made with the Cowboys.
ESPN’s Dan Graziano reported that the Bears will interview former Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll on Thursday for the vacant head coach position. Carroll and the Seahawks mutually agreed that he’d step away as head coach following the 2023 season, and last year, he was an advisor for the franchise.
