One notable absence from the Seattle Seahawks’ 20-7 preseason loss to the Green Bay Packers was second-year guard Christian Haynes. Having all but lost out on the starting right guard job to Anthony Bradford, there has been speculation as to whether or not the 2024 third-round pick will even make the regular season roster.

Speaking with reporters following the game, Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald revealed that Haynes is dealing with a pec injury, with a timetable unknown as far as how long he’ll be out.

Macdonald believes that the injury may have occurred in Thursday’s joint practice. Haynes had previously suffered a minor pec issue three weeks ago, causing him to miss the Aug. 1 team drills and the Aug. 2 Football Fan Fest at Lumen Field.

Haynes steadily fell off the right guard competition, taking snaps at center and left guard while Jalen Sundell was added to the right guard mix alongside Bradford. In preseason games against the Las Vegas Raiders and Kansas City Chiefs, he had no first-team snaps and indeed was a left guard against Vegas. Haynes did finally play right guard versus Kansas City.

If Haynes’ pec injury is not a major one but is still serious enough for him to miss time, perhaps he could be a candidate for injured reserve (designated for return). It’s nevertheless a frustrating start to a second season for the former UConn star.
