Thursday night will be the first time we see how different the Cincinnati Bengals’ approach in the preseason will be. Zac Taylor has said the starters will play more, and that will be the case when the Bengals open the preseason in Philadelphia.
While Joe Burrow, Ja’Marr Chase, and Tee Higgins will play, Mike Gesicki and Noah Fant will not play Thursday night, as well as Cam Taylor-Britt, Dax Hill, BJ Hill, Marco Wilson, Matt Lee, and Cedric Johnson.
Thankfully, Taylor did say that Gesicki and Lee would be questionable if it were a game week, signaling that their injuries aren’t serious at this time.
Here’s what Taylor had to say about how much we will see the Bengals offense Thursday night.
“We don’t have this targeted as the biggest play time for our guys. We really picked Washington to be more of that. Another thing I hate to put in a stone – a couple of series, several series is what we’ll give those starters,” he said.
“It could be a long possession that eats up most of the first quarter. Do you want them to get another one? I’ve always been in these preseason situations, you’re careful to say what I just said because it could go into the second quarter because of the reps that we’ve gotten. But right now, that’s about the target period that we’ve got.”
Tuesday’s training camp practice was a light one in full pads, going for one hour and 40 minutes. It also included light scout team work on what Philadelphia will present Thursday night.
There were a lot of individual drills Wednesday at practice with light work in 11-on-11.
Edge rusher Cedric Johnson was walking through the locker room with a boot on his left foot, and Cam Taylor-Britt and Marco Wilson did not dress for practice Tuesday.
