Just about everyone agrees that the elite tier of quarterbacks in the NFL consists of Patrick Mahomes, Josh Allen, Joe Burrow and Lamar Jackson in one order or another.
However, there is another signal-caller who is about to play in the Super Bowl for the second time in three years and was the runner-up in the MVP balloting in 2022 who isn’t considered elite.
Jalen Hurts of the Philadelphia Eagles, in the minds of some, doesn’t get his due, and one man who thinks that way is Mike Francesa, who said on his podcast that Hurts is underrated.
“He’s a better quarterback than people give him credit for. He’s a better leader than that,” Francesa said.

Francesa admitted that Hurts isn’t a great passer or a great player overall, but that his ability to move the chains with his legs makes him a very viable signal-caller.
Hurts threw for 2,903 yards and 18 touchdowns this season, but he ran for 630 yards and 14 touchdowns, yet he wasn’t chosen to take part in the Pro Bowl.
Throughout his career, he has had to overcome being an underdog — he was benched during the College Football Playoff National Championship Game in favor of Tua Tagovailoa, who was then a freshman, and when the Eagles drafted him in 2020, he was originally a third-string QB behind Carson Wentz and, of all people, Nate Sudfeld.
When he stepped into the starting role, people again doubted he could handle his responsibilities.
Now, he has the opportunity to silence those critics for eternity by winning a Super Bowl title against Patrick Mahomes and the defending world champion Kansas City Chiefs.
