The Philadelphia Eagles finally dealt A.J. Brown to the Eagles on June 1st. Philadelphia received a 2028 first-round pick in exchange for the veteran wide receiver. Now a new controversy related to Brown is bubbling to the surface after one of his interviews following the major trade.
Mike Florio of ProFootballTalk called out members of the media for botching a major story involving Brown on June 4th.
Florio pointed to the mysterious Dov Kleiman and former ESPN analyst Trey Wingo who both claimed that Brown leaked stories to the media to motivate the Eagles in 2025.
In reality, Brown did not leak any stories to the media. Instead, all of the incidents that Brown spoke with Maria Taylor about were on the record and widely reported.
“Most importantly, Brown never told Maria Taylor that he leaked stories to the media to motivate teammates,” Florio wrote. “Brown didn’t operate in the shadows. He stood in the spotlight and said what he needed to say.”
One perfect example was when Brown told fantasy football players to “get rid of me” during a Twitch stream back in November. Brown doubled down on those comments when talking with reporters, explaining that he wanted to hold his offense accountable.
“I don’t care if I’m misunderstood. I’ll stand up and fall on the sword over and over again. It’s about doing what we’re supposed to do on offense,” Brown declared via Zach Berman.
Florio explained that there is a huge difference between Brown talking to the media and actually leaking stories. That distinction is quite important because it colors Brown’s actions in a misleading way.
“It’s a huge difference. The notion that Brown “leaked” stories creates the impression that he was violating the code of the locker room, that he was going rogue and potentially sabotaging the team,” Florio added.
Ultimately, Florio challenged outlets that pushed the “leaked” stories narrative to revise their tweets and articles.
