The preseason debut of Shedeur Sanders couldn’t have gone any better.
While he appeared somewhat out of sync with his receivers, the young quarterback’s performance was generally well-received.
Shedeur showed the composure needed to overcome his initial fear of starting an NFL game. He gradually improved as the minutes went by and made it clear he has the qualities to be a star in the league.
Myles Garrett wasn’t buying into Shedeur Sanders’ playful challenge on the sidelines.
During a lighthearted exchange caught on a hot mic, the rookie quarterback floated the idea of testing his spin move against one of the NFL’s most feared pass rushers, saying, “I want to feel one of your swipes… I want to see if I can get out of it.”
Garrett smiled at Shedeur Sanders, but firmly shot back, “You’re a good kid. I don’t want to have to hurt you.”
Here is the full exchange:
“Hey Myles, you think my spin sh** would work on you?” Sanders asked Garrett.
Garrett, laughing, replied, “Nope. It worked today, though—it wouldn’t work on me.”
“I ain’t gonna lie, I want to feel one of your swipes, though. Like one of those aggressive grabs. I just want to see if I can get out of it,” Sanders said.
“You’re a kid—I don’t want to have to hurt you, bro. We’re going to need you,” Garrett added.

Shedeur Sanders and other notable rookies were clear NFL preseason Week 1 winners.
With Cleveland Browns quarterbacks Dillon Gabriel and Kenny Pickett out with hamstring injuries, Sanders may have put himself in an excellent position when it comes to the depth chart.
The Colorado quarterback got the start for the Browns in their preseason opener and played essentially three quarters.
He completed 14 of his 23 pass attempts for 138 yards and two touchdowns.
