For the first time since the Dallas Cowboys selected him 12th overall in the 2021 NFL Draft, Micah Parsons is headed into a contract year. Having reached Pro Bowl status all four seasons of his career, plus adding a Defensive Player of the Year Award, Parsons is in line to become the highest-paid defender in NFL history.
That would mean topping the $40 million average that Myles Garrett signed with the Cleveland Browns. Yet, there’s little evidence to suggest the 26-year-old superstar hasn’t earned it.
So, why haven’t the Cowboys gotten their best defender signed past this season yet? According to Parsons’ recent appearance on the Six Feet Under podcast, it’s time to blame the Cowboys for overcomplicating his contract situation.

Clearly, Parsons isn’t stressing about his situation, and he shouldn’t. As history has shown, the longer the Cowboys wait, the more expensive Parsons becomes thanks to the ever-increasing market for top-notch players.
While an annual average of $40 million is the barrier right now, it could be something like $50 million next offseason, especially considering former Defensive Player of the Year T.J. Watt is in line for a new contract too.
