This offseason, when the Miami Dolphins were ready to part ways with Tua Tagovailoa, they turned to the exciting but inexperienced Malik Willis, signing him to a three-year, $67.5 million contract in free agency. Yet, as noted, Willis is light on experience; he’s started just six games in his career, but now will be handed the starting quarterback job in South Beach. Though there’s no guarantee he’s the franchise solution they’re seeking.
As a result, the Dolphins may have to continue planning for the future, even considering other potential long-term starters. Yet, they may have just found their newest project.

On Thursday, KPRC-2’s Aaron Wilson revealed that the Dolphins have secured a workout with UFL MVP quarterback Jack Plummer. But the workout won’t take place until next week. In fact, the San Francisco 49ers will beat the Dolphins to the punch; they’re working out the 26-year-old first on Friday.
Plummer spent last season with the UFL’s Orlando Storm, where he led the league with 2,188 passing yards and 17 touchdowns (second-most in UFL). He also threw just one interception all season. That was enough to earn him All-UFL honors in addition to the MVP trophy. Plummer’s Storm finished with an 8-2 record in the regular season, but lost their first game in the postseason.
This will not be Plummer’s first cup of coffee in the NFL. After going undrafted through the 2024 NFL Draft, Plummer joined the Carolina Panthers, but did not see any action. He was let go last August, and later resurfaced with the UFL this past January.
For those who are curious, the 6-foot-5 Plummer is not related to former Arizona Cardinals and Denver Broncos QB Jake Plummer.
