The Miami Dolphins lost a key player in practice on Wednesday. Second-year edge rusher Chop Robinson was injured early in the day’s joint practice against the Detroit Lions and was carted off the field.
Robinson was having a strong training camp ahead of his second season in the NFL and is expected to be part of a formidable pass rush alongside Jaelan Phillips and Bradley Chubb.
Phillips and Fins defensive coordinator Anthony Weaver rushed to the former Penn State star after he went down. A cart was brought out shortly after, taking the player off the field.
Chubb recently expressed enthusiasm over Robinson, referring to him as a “phenomenal” player who will keep growing.
“One hundred percent,” he said. “He’s lights-out, man. His motor, the way he bends the edge, the way he could play the run – I know a lot of people in here say he couldn’t play the run, (but he’s) nothing short of phenomenal, man, and I’m excited to see him keep growing.”
Chop Robinson was drafted at No. 21 overall by Miami last year and has established himself as one of the NFL’s most promising young edge rushers.
He got off to a slow start in 2024, recording zero sacks in his first seven games. However, he found form in the second half of his rookie campaign, ending it with six sacks and 56 pressures, second among first-year players in the position.
Pro Football Focus ranked him the 14th-best pass rusher after playing in all 17 games.
He has continued to attract plaudits this offseason, with coaches and teammates lauding his explosiveness and work ethic. Phillips has predicted that he will be a Defensive Player of the Year candidate at some point.
The extent of Robinson’s injury is still unknown, but should he miss time, it would come as a crushing blow for Miami.
