The Miami Dolphins made one trade during this season’s flurry of swaps that concluded with the NFL’s trade deadline on Tuesday afternoon — sending former first round pick EDGE rusher Jaelan Phillips to the Philadelphia Eagles in exchange for a third round pick in the 2026 NFL Draft.
That move left the Dolphins with a hole in their linebacker room. Today, they filled that spot by signing Andre Carter II off of the Detroit Lions’ practice squad to their 53-man roster.
Carter II entered the NFL in 2023 when he signed with the Minnesota Vikings as an undrafted free agent following the 2023 NFL Draft. He spent 2023 in Minnesota before heading to Las Vegas to be a part of the Raiders organization in 2024. He has played in 15 career games — totaling three tackles and 0.5 sacks during that time.
Carter II had a productive college career at Army — a career that included a stellar junior season in which Carter II had 47 total tackles, 20.5 tackles for loss, 16.5 sacks, one interception, two passes defensed, four forced fumbles and two fumble recoveries.
Carter II joins a group of outside linebackers in Miami that is headlined by Bradley Chubb, Chop Robinson and Matthew Judon.
