Miami Dolphins Orange Jersey Award recap

Miami Dolphins Orange Jersey Award recap
The Phinsider The Phinsider

With the Miami Dolphins 2025 regular season set to kick off this Sunday against the Colts in Indianapolis, it’s time to take a look back at a very busy offseason for the storied franchise — specifically, it’s time to pore over the Orange Jersey Award list to see what we can learn from the winners.

There were a total of 22 winners this offseason. Nine times, an offensive player won the award, which means that on 13 occasions, a defensive player was the one recognized for outstanding performance.

Of the nine days an offensive player took home the award, only two repeat winners emerged — center Aaron Brewer and quarterback Tua Tagoavailoa. We had three repeat winners on the defensive side of the football, with EDGE rushers Jaelan Phillips and Chop Robinson being two of those players, and cornerback Storm Duck rounding out the repeat winners club.

No player won the award three times.

Interestingly enough, of the six captains named by the Dolphins yesterday, only one player — fullback Alec Ingold — didn’t win an orange jersey award this summer, although Ingold has dealt with some injuries which limited his practice participation this offseason.

After suffering a disappointing season last year — a year in which the Dolphins missed the playoffs for the first time during head coach Mike McDaniel’s tenure — the buzz around Miami is trending in a negative direction currently. Plenty of national media talking heads are predicting a disastrous season for the club from South Florida. However, if these Orange Jersey Award winning players have their say, the Dolphins could prove to be a pleasant surprise in the National Football League landscape when the action kicks off this week.
