Miami Dolphins’ Most Valuable Player | Week Two | Gone in a Flash
The Phinsider The Phinsider

The Miami Dolphins have played two football games to start the 2025 NFL season, and the Miami Dolphins have lost two football games to start the 2025 NFL season.

It’s not the way any of us had hoped the year would go, and it probably means we’re in for a whole lot more “bad” than “good” this season from the guys in aqua and orange. When that’s the case, your rooting interests can change some.

Some supporters of the Dolphins will actually root for the season to go even further south so that Miami’s first round draft pick next year can be as high up the board as possible. Some, will still root for wins, but will root even harder for the growth and development of Miami’s youngsters.

Count me in that boat.

Miami Dolphins Week Two MVP – Malik Washington

Malik Washington was a sixth round selection by the Miami Dolphins in the 2024 NFL Draft. He entered a crowded receiver’s room — with veterans Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle deservedly ahead of the young player on the depth chart. However, Washington has carved out a bit of a role for himself since joining the guys in South Florida, becoming the team’s third receiver while also handling plenty of punt returns.

It was one such punt return on Sunday that helped Washington earn the Week Two Most Valuable ‘Phin award from yours truly!

In the fourth quarter of Sunday’s loss, Washington housed a Patriots punt to give the Dolphins a 27-23 lead and a chance to win the game. Of course, we all saw that on the ensuing kickoff, Antonio Gibson took Miami’s kick all the way back for a score of his own, giving New England a lead they never lost.

However, for a moment — a sweet, sweet moment — Washington’s punt return touchdown gave Dolphins fans something to be joyous about in the midst of an otherwise hellish season so far.

Miami fans will hope for continued development from Washington, as he seems like a player you want to keep around during the inevitable reset/rebuild that is looming over our once storied franchise.
