On Monday, the Miami Dolphins made a move that was anticipated for several months by trading Jalen Ramsey. But the Dolphins didn’t just trade Ramsey for Minkah Fitzpatrick; they also sent former Pro Bowl tight end Jonnu Smith to the Pittsburgh Steelers, creating a need for a new replacement.

Yet, in the aftermath of the Dolphins’ latest trade, reports have surfaced that they’re now seeking a new tight end. According to the Miami Herald’s Omar Kelly, one of the tight ends the Dolphins have had their eye on “for a while” is Las Vegas Raiders 2023 second-round pick Michael Mayer.

The Raiders have made no indications that they’re prepared to trade the 35th overall pick from 2023, but they did select All-Pro tight end Brock Bowers in the first round in 2024, so perhaps they view Mayer as expendable.

As for Miami, Mayer would be an inexpensive solution, yet it may require the Dolphins to part with a mid-round draft selection in exchange for the soon-to-be 24-year-old. Mayer produced 304 yards and three touchdowns as a rookie, but his production predictably dropped off last season as Bowers took over starting duties in Las Vegas.
