The Phinsider
Earlier this week, I authored an in-depth article regarding the significant controversy surrounding Brenden Sorsby. I covered the details of his past gambling involvement, the NCAA’s decision to declare him ineligible, the subsequent court injunction that allowed him to continue playing, and the resulting outcry from the media, fans, and various collegiate programs and conferences.
I then asked the following questions:
What is your take on the Brendan Sorsby controversy? Should he be allowed to play college football this coming fall? What should Texas Tech, other Big 12 teams, the Big 12 conference, or the other conferences do or not do about this situation? Should Sorsby just cut his losses at this point, avoiding further controversy that will likely drag on through the upcoming season and enter the NFL Supplemental Draft? If Sorsby were to enter the supplemental draft, would you be in favor of the Dolphins bidding on Sorsby in an attempt to draft him?
Since my initial post, which you can find HERE, Brenden Sorsby and Texas Tech have reportedly reached a mutual agreement to part ways, with Sorsby now expected to declare for the NFL’s supplemental draft. I am uncertain whether this change of heart was driven by overwhelming public pressure from all corners or by the Big 12 signaling it was prepared to take legal action against one of its own members to enforce its rules. As noted in my previous coverage, Miami has been identified as a potential suitor interested in pursuing him through this process. Now that the situation has evolved, how do you feel about the Dolphins potentially bidding on Sorsby to secure his services?
Below are some of your thoughts and answers from the original post on Sorsby-
Dave21, who once had to follow the same NCAA rules himself, says it’s a no-go for this guy.
Honestly he should not be allowed to play NCAA College sports of any kind. Rules!! Now you can’t hold anyone else to that either in the future.
Reid_305 is not interested in seeing him play for the Phins
Wouldn’t want him on my team…just saying
SlayerNation1 says he’ll get his chance to play at the next level if he can. It’s hard to argue this, as he was slated to be a second-rounder or possibly a late first-rounder if he had come out and declared for the regular NFL draft.
What is the biggest issue in the NFL? The dearth of Quality QBs. It’s not that it hasn’t always been the case, but it seems the drop off from the top 5-6 is drastic. It quickly goes to the low end of mediocre or worse…. the middle class of QBs has shrunk.
I say that to say this: He will get His chances in a QB desperate league if He can at all convince that He isn’t a recidivist. He can easily agree to do a PSA denouncing gambling for damage control, people will lap it up.
