Miami Dolphins Discussion: Malik Willis Vs. Quinn Ewers Edition
The Phinsider The Phinsider

I recently watched a Dolphins Collective YouTube video titled “Clearing the Air on Quinn Ewers vs. Malik Willis.” The show featured Doug of DougliedoWrong (I guess his last name is a secret or he goes by one name à la Prince or Madonna), Tony Dowe of TD Phins Talk, the Miami Herald’s Omar Kelly, and Sports Illustrated’s Alain Poupart, who discussed reports suggesting that Quinn Ewers has been performing as well as—or even better than—Malik Willis in some of the recent practices during OTAs.

During the six OTA sessions open to the press, show hosts Poupart and Kelly, two of the four who attended, debated the quarterbacks’ performances. Beyond specific situational observations, they quantified the results across all sessions: Poupart determined that Ewers and Willis each outperformed the other in one practice with four ties, while Kelly assessed that Ewers led in two practices, Willis in one, and three resulted in a tie.

My main takeaway is that Willis more or less performed as expected after signing as a free agent. Meanwhile, Ewers has shown consistent year-over-year growth since his rookie season. While Willis’s contract likely secures his position as the starter for now, I wonder if Ewers could genuinely challenge for the role if he keeps improving—especially if he gets an opportunity to step in due to a potential injury mid-season.

So this evening’s Phinsider Question Of The Day is:

Given the current dynamics of the team, do you think Quinn Ewers has a realistic path to becoming the starting quarterback over Malik Willis, whether through a competitive training camp performance or if an opportunity arises due to a mid-season injury?
