The Miami Dolphins gave a worrisome injury update on star running back De’Von Achane ahead of next week’s preseason game against the Jacksonville Jaguars.
Per ESPN’s Cameron Wolfe, Dolphins head coach Mike McDaniel announced that De’Von Achane is dealing with a soft tissue injury in his lower body that will sideline him “days and weeks.”
The good news is that McDaniel doesn’t seem worried that Achane will have to miss the season opener against the Indianapolis Colts on Sept. 7.
News of De’Von Achane’s injury comes days after it was announced that veteran running back Alexander Mattison will miss the entire season because of a neck injury. Miami signed Mattison to a one-year deal to push for the RB2 job behind Achane.
Dolphins RB De’Von Achane has a soft tissue lower body injury that will keep him out between “days & weeks”, HC Mike McDaniel told reporters in Detroit. McDaniel indicated he’s not concerned about Achane availability Week 1 vs. Colts.

Aside from the Mattison and Achane injuries, the Dolphins learned last month that they will be without standout cornerback Kader Kohou for all of 2025 because of a knee injury. With the regular season still three weeks away, the injury bug couldn’t come at a much worse time for Miami.
Following a strong rookie season, Achane proved it wasn’t beginner’s luck by racking up 907 rushing yards, 1,499 yards from scrimmage and 12 touchdowns in 2024. With former RB sidekick Raheem Mostert gone, Achane will likely get a lot more playing time in 2025.
