The San Francisco 49ers have had horrific luck at MetLife Stadium throughout the years. That luck did not get any better on Sunday against the New York Giants.

Head coach Kyle Shanahan believes the 49ers may have lost first-round pick Mykel Williams to a torn ACL. He said, “We’re worried it’s an ACL, but you never know until tomorrow.” Shanahan didn’t see the injury.

Here’s Shanahan on how Mykel is feeling: “He’s just down. I told him, ‘You never know. Hopefully, it’s not the worst. If it is, it sucks for this year, but you’ll be back next year, and it won’t affect you at all.”

The team won’t know for sure until Williams undergoes an MRI exam on Monday, but if the team is worried about it now, you know they’re not feeling confident about the prospects of Williams’ injury.

As for Brock Purdy, he “wasn’t that close” this week despite the team considering him throughout the week. Shanahan said he wants to ensure Purdy is “100 percent better” and the team will not put him out there too early: “Thought about it as a possible backup or emergency, but the more time we give him, the better.”

Shanahan doesn’t think Purdy’s turf toe won’t fully go away all year, regardless of when he returns: “He’s going to always have to deal with it a little bit. It’s about assessing when you have to come back and have to deal with it the least. It’s a little bit of a tricky decision.”
