All is well that ends well for Maxx Crosby and the Las Vegas Raiders. The Raiders traded Crosby to the Baltimore Ravens in March in exchange for two first-round picks. The Ravens, however, backed out of the agreement just days later after Crosby failed his physical exam.
Crosby, who is dealing with a knee injury, returned to the Raiders, albeit in an awkward situation. But it looks like both camps have patched things up and are back on the same page.
Aside from retaining the defensive end, there is reason for optimism in Las Vegas after getting Fernando Mendoza with the No. 1 pick in this year’s draft. The Raiders have long been pining for a quarterback who could lead the squad to new heights, and Mendoza could be that guy.
The 28-year-old Crosby has been impressed with the 22-year-old Mendoza, as reported by ESPN’s Ryan McFadden.
“Fernando has been awesome. He’s a great kid. He has a great work ethic,” said Crosby.
The five-time Pro Bowler shared that he invited Mendoza and his other young teammates over to his house to watch Game 7 of the NBA Western Conference Finals. Crosby flexed that he beat Mendoza in a game of H.O.R.S.E and jokingly mentioned a point of improvement for the rookie.
“He’s got to work on the jump shot,” said Crosby.
It is great to see Crosby taking Mendoza under his wing and forming a bond with his young teammates to help them adjust to the NFL. It is yet another proof of why the two-time All-Pro is well-loved in Las Vegas.
The Raiders are looking to snap a four-year drought in the playoffs. They only tallied three wins last season, their fewest since 2014.
Crosby logged 73 total tackles, including a career-best 28 tackles for loss.
