Former Pittsburgh Steelers center Maurkice Pouncey is an all-time great. He’ll be inducted into the Steelers Hall of Honor later this year and he could be in the Pro Football Hall of Fame someday. However, one thing he is missing is a Super Bowl ring.
During a recent appearance on Cam Heyward’s Not Just Football podcast, Pouncey claimed the Steelers should have won 2-3 Super Bowls during the Killer B’s era.
“If you just seen us on paper, we should have won what, two, three Super Bowls?” Pouncey explained. “Sometimes, I think with social media, it was such a big pop at that point, right? Especially with all our guys. And I think it more like, it bled into, I’m very honest about it, I just felt like we wasn’t playing as a team. I love all my guys to death, but I just felt like we played so well as a team and on the offense side of things during the regular season, but then when it started to count towards the very, very end, we was falling apart a little bit because maybe one guy went this way or another guy went that way.”

The Killer B’s era was at its height from 2014-2017. The closest that the Steelers got to the Super Bowl during that time was in 2016, falling to the New England Patriots in the AFC Championship Game.
The Steelers offense was explosive in the mid-2010s, but the defense left a lot to be desired. I mean, the Steelers’ starting secondary against New England in the 2016 AFC Championship was Artie Burns and Coty Sensabaugh at cornerback and Sean Davis and Mike Mitchell at safety.
Outside of New England’s second dynasty run being in the way, injuries and drama also hindered the Steelers. Le’Veon Bell was injured for the playoffs in 2014 and 2015, and held out for the entire year in 2018 due to a contract dispute. Antonio Brown was injured in the AFC Wild Card game in 2015, thanks to a hit by Vontaze Burfict. Brown also went off the rails at the end of the 2018 season, ultimately ending his tenure with the Steelers.
Linebacker Ryan Shazier suffered a career-ending spinal cord injury in December of 2017. That put a major wrench in the Steelers’ Super Bowl chances that season. 2017 was probably the Steelers’ best shot to win a Super Bowl, as that was the lone year that the Killer B’s were together in the playoffs.
The Jacksonville Jaguars got out to a 21-0 lead against the Steelers in the 2017 AFC Divisional Round game, ultimately taking down Pittsburgh, 45-42, at Heinz Field. The Steelers’ offense racked up a whopping 545 yards, but two crucial turnovers by Ben Roethlisberger (one interception and one fumble, which...
