Los Angeles Rams quarterback Matthew Stafford is revealing a deep personal connection to Camp Mystic after flooding in Texas killed at least 27 campers and counselors.

The 37-year-old disclosed on the Thursday episode of his wife Kelly Stafford’s podcast, “The Morning After,” that his older sister, Page, attended the Christian summer camp as a kid.

The quarterback and his family moved to Dallas when he was growing up.

“Awful, awful thing to see,” Matthew said. “I can’t imagine in the middle of the night waking up to something like that, whether you were at the camp or around. It’s a tough thing to look at. Tough to understand why those things happen.”

He added, “Definitely heart-wrenching. A tough thing to read about and see about. Just thinking about the people in that region of the country. It hits pretty close to home for me.”

Stafford also shined a light on the individuals who put their lives in danger to try to save flood victims.

“There were a lot of people out there who were brave,” he said. “There are some amazing stories from it, too. People trying to save people and getting that done.”

Matthew Stafford’s wife, Kelly, called the tragedy “your worst nightmare if you’re a parent.”

“That hit, because that’s what we have,” Kelly said. “As a parent, it’s hard to even look at.”

27 people were killed at Camp Mystic in last week’s cataclysmic flooding.

At least 120 people have died in the flooding that struck the Texas Hill Country on Friday. Another 170 people are still missing.

Matthew Stafford Heads Into 2025 NFL Season With New Contract Despite Being Offered More By Other Teams

Matthew Stafford is set to return for the 2025 NFL season with the Los Angeles Rams.

Stafford was so intent on staying with the Los Angeles Rams that he apparently turned down several big contract offers earlier this offseason.

In February, the Rams quarterback was looking for a contract with more guaranteed money, but he couldn’t reach an agreement with the Rams.

The Rams decided to give Stafford permission to speak to other teams about a possible trade. At the time, multiple teams, including the Steelers, Browns, Raiders, and Giants, were believed to be interested in Stafford.

According to Sports Illustrated, the Giants and Raiders were so eager to land Stafford that both teams made him a contract offer worth at least $100 million over two years.

However, the 37-year-old quarterback ended up making the decision to stay in Los Angeles.

Under the revised deal, Matthew Stafford will be getting $84 million over the next two years.
