The Lions saw their season come to a disappointing end in front of plenty of people who paid a ton of money to watch them lose to the Commanders in the playoffs. That includes one fan who sold an autographed Matthew Stafford jersey so he could buy tickets, but he’s gotten a replacement courtesy of the quarterback.

Last year, the Detroit Lions came up painfully short in their quest to make it to the Super Bowl for the first time in franchise history when they lost to the 49ers in the NFC Championship.

However, it was pretty clear the team was headed in the right direction under Dan Campbell, and they not only punched their ticket to the playoffs for the second season in a row but did so by going 15-2 to secure a bye and home-field advantage as the top-seeded team in the conference.

The Lions were overwhelming favorites to beat the Commanders in their Divisional Round showdown, but the 8.5-point underdogs pulled off the stunning upset while quieting the vast majority of the nearly 65,000 people at Ford Field—most of whom had to fork over a significant amount of cash to get a ticket into the game.

That includes Bryson Machonga, a Detroit fan who currently resides in Wisconsin who told The Detroit Free Press he’d decided to sell an autographed Matthew Stafford jersey, some Badgers apparel signed by Russell Wilson and Ron Dayne, and “some nice bottles of bourbon” so he could afford to take his eight-year-old daughter to her first Lions game.

Stafford spent 12 years playing for the Lions before taking his talents to the Rams, and the same outlet reports the QB who recently wrapped up his fourth season in Los Angeles came across the original story and decided to send Machonga a replacement by signing a jersey he wore while playing for the Lions in 2014 after asking someone employed by his current franchise to track down his details.

Machonga praised Stafford for going out of his way to arrange the delivery while he was gearing up for a Divisional Showdown of his own against the Eagles, saying,

“It just reconfirmed who Matthew Stafford is. He had no reason to go about doing this. He had no gain. He’s not our quarterback anymore…

“No disrespect to Jared Goff, I love what Jared Goff has done for the Lions. But this is why he’s QB1 for me, forever.”

What a guy.
