In his post-game press conference, Green Bay Packers head coach Matt LaFleur took ownership of the playcall that ended with quarterback Jordan Love throwing an interception, which eventually led to the Cleveland Browns’ only touchdown of their 13-10 win over the Packers.

Here’s how LaFleur described the play:

“They were playing man coverage, and the guy, [safety Grant] Delpit, did a hell of a job. He passed off [tight end Tucker Kraft] to the inside backer, and he fell off in the window. That’s a bad playcall. We shouldn’t have called that play. That’s on me.”

This play is pretty simple. It’s man coverage across the board with a four-man rush. The Browns are playing with the middle linebacker in a shallow zone behind the line of scrimmage, and a safety to the running back side has a deeper middle of the field zone.

Delpit is matched up with Kraft, who is lined up as the most inside slot receiver to the trips side.

As you can see in the video, Delpit does exactly as LaFleur said. When Kraft breaks inside, Delpit stops playing man coverage and ends up getting into the window of the second slot receiver, Dontayvion Wicks, who is running a slant. Love though it was man coverage…which it was…until it wasn’t.

Green Bay ended up surrendering a touchdown to Cleveland on the following drive, missing a field goal and then allowing the Browns to make a game-winning field goal. Cleveland never had a lead in the game until there were triple zeros on the clock.
