Former Pittsburgh Steelers offensive lineman Jarron Jones has signed with the Birmingham Stallions of the UFL for the 2025 season.
The 6-foot-6, 320-pound Jones was signed by the Steelers in 2020 after having played that spring in the XFL. He spent that entire season on the Pittsburgh practice squad, and re-signed for 2021, but was waived after a domestic violence arrest that prompted a 10-game NFL suspension.
Jones did not play anywhere in the 2021 season, but landed in the USFL with the Tampa Bay Bandits under former Steelers offensive coordinator Todd Haley in 2022. He was named to the All-USFL team that season.
In 2023, the Bandits became the Memphis Showboats as the USFL transitioned to playing in some host cities. Jones remained with the Showboats as the USFL merged with the XFL to form the UFL in 2024.
Jones has started 28 games over the last three spring seasons at tackle between Tampa and Memphis, but he was not retained by the Showboats this offseason. Instead, he’ll join Birmingham, the reigning UFL champs, where he’ll play alongside fellow former Steelers T.J. Carter, Nevelle Clarke, Tae Crowder, Carlos Davis, Christian DiLaurio, Madre Harper, Tre Norwood, Kenny Robinson, Jace Sternberger and Kyahva Tezino.
Before singing with the Steelers, Jones has spent time with the New York Giants, Seattle Seahawks, Dallas Cowboys, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, Detroit Lions and Buffalo Bills after going undrafted out of Notre Dame in 2017.
Jones started out as a defensive tackle before making the move to the offensive line. Jones had 45 tackles, 11 tackles for loss and two sacks as a redshirt junior with Notre Dame in 2016.
A Rochester, New York native, the Steelers also had his younger brother, Jamir Jones, on their roster. Jamir is signed to play with the Houston Roughnecks in the UFL this season.
The 2025 UFL season will kick off on March 28, again featuring eight teams and a 10-week regular season, leading up to the second UFL Championship on June 14.
