Shane Tamura went into 345 Park Ave. in midtown on Monday armed with an M4 rifle and opened fire in the lobby and again on the 33rd floor before he eventually killed himself.

It was the latest incident involving senseless gun violence in the United States.

The 27-year-old man had a plan for what he wanted to do, but ultimately made a crucial mistake that likely saved the lives of many more people.

Tamura reportedly carried a note in his pocket claiming he suffered from CTE and asking that his brain be studied. The note also made references to the National Football League, police said.

New York City Mayor Eric Adams then stated that Tamura was actually trying to target the headquarters of the National Football League, but took the wrong elevator. Investigators believe Tamura was trying to get to the NFL offices after shooting several people in the building’s lobby, but accidentally entered the wrong set of elevator banks, Adams said in interviews on Tuesday.

Four people, including an off-duty New York City police officer, were killed.

Shane Tamura Blamed The NFL

CTE, or chronic traumatic encephalopathy, is a brain disease linked to repeated hits to the head, often seen in military veterans and athletes, including football players, hockey players, and boxers.

It is impossible to be diagnosed in a living person.

Shane Tamura, who the police said has a documented mental health history, played high school football.

The 27-year-old man who shot and killed four people at a Midtown office building on Monday asked that his brain be studied and made references to the NFL.

A motive has not been determined, but investigators believe he might have a vendetta against the NFL despite never playing in it.
