It seemed safe to assume Mark Sanchez had called his last game for Fox after he was charged in connection with the stabbing incident where he was initially painted as the victim. That is indeed the case, as the network has confirmed he’s out of a job after turning to a QB who had much more success during his time in the NFL to replace him.

It’s been a little over a month since we learned Mark Sanchez had been rushed to the hospital after being stabbed in Indianapolis while he was preparing to cover a game between the Raiders and the Colts for Fox.

Most people assumed the QB, who initially made a name for himself at USC before spending seven seasons in the NFL, had been the target of a random act of violence. However, the narrative shifted in a very unexpected way when we learned he’d been accused of attacking a truck driver who was trying to collect used cooking oil when he was attacked by the retired player.

Sanchez is currently facing up to six years in prison after being hit with a felony battery charge and three misdemeanors. He continues to recover from the stab wounds he suffered from the alleged victim who says he pulled out a knife in self-defense, and he’s also out of a job as he awaits trial.

Fox has kicked Mark Sanchez to the curb and is tapping Drew Brees to replace him as an analyst

Fox initially released a statement directing “thoughts and prayers” in Sanchez’s direction after news of his hospitalization broke, but it found itself in a very awkward position once more details concerning the origins of his injuries emerged.

Brady Quinn was tapped to serve as his emergency replacement for the Raiders-Colts game that weekend, and Mark Schlereth has been joining Chris Myers in the booth since stepping up to serve in the interim as the network presumably turned its attention to a long-term solution.

On Friday, The Athletic reported Fox had landed the services of Drew Brees, the legendary QB who is a lock to become a first-ballot Hall of Famer in 2026. The man who split his 20-year NFL career between the Chargers and the Saints briefly served as a color commentator for NBC Sports in 2022, and he’s expected to make his grand return at an as-of-yet undetermined game next Sunday.

According to TMZ Sports, Brees will be filling the void that has officially formed at Fox after the network severed ties with the man he replaced, saying, “We can confirm that Mark Sanchez is no longer with the network. There will be no further comment at this time.”

Sanchez had been working for Fox since 2021. Brees didn’t exactly dazzle during his one and only year at NBC, so I guess we’ll have to wait and see if he’s had some time to work on his broadcasting game over the past few years.
