More details have emerged on the wild situation that saw NFL veteran and FOX analyst Mark Sanchez get arrested at the hospital. And it seems it all started when he scared the heck out of a senior citizen during a drunken rage.
The New York Jets and Philadelphia Eagles veteran had football fans concerned on Saturday morning when it was revealed he was recovering at an Indianapolis hospital after being stabbed during an altercation late on Friday night. Then things took a sharp left turn.
It was later revealed that the former USC star was taken into custody by local authorities for his role in what happened on Friday evening. As the hours pass, more details continue to emerge on the incident, and they don’t put the FOX NFL analyst in a good light.
On Saturday night, it was revealed that Sanchez was being charged with Battery Resulting in Injury, Public Intoxication, and Unlawful Entry of a Motor Vehicle. Making it seem like the former football player was the aggressor in the incident.
On Sunday morning, ESPN reporter Adam Schefter added more details on the situation. According to an affidavit on the altercation, Sanchez allegedly developed an issue with an elderly truck driver at an Indy loading dock. The problems between them escalated to a point where the driver claimed he thought “this guy is trying to kill me” and showered the veteran QB with pepper spray.
The spray did not stop Sanchez, and that is when the driver decided to pull a knife to defend himself. Stabbing the football player “two to three times.” Even after being stabbed, Sanchez was still able to throw the driver against a dumpster and onto the ground. However, “a look of shock” came over Sanchez’s face, and he ran off.
Based on new comments from Marion County prosecutor Ryan Mears, it seems like local authorities believe the driver over Sanchez.
“This incident should never have happened,” Mears said in a statement on Sunday. “What began as a disagreement between a 38-year-old former professional athlete and a 69-year-old man should not have escalated into violence or left anyone seriously injured. As with any case, we will follow the facts and the law wherever they lead.”
