A lot has gone right for the New England Patriots so far this season, which can be seen clear as day with their 10-2 record. One of the bigger developments on the defensive side of the ball has been the play of slot cornerback Marcus Jones.

After bursting onto the scene as a rookie and earning a spot on the All-Pro First Team as a returner, Jones struggled over the past two seasons. However, he put together a strong training camp and quickly made himself a crucial piece of Mike Vrabel’s new look defense.

Jones had constantly been making big plays for the Pats, with the latest example coming against the Cincinnati Bengals in Week 12. Jones housed an interception from Joe Flacco for a 33-yard score, giving New England a 14-10 lead it would not relinquish.

The numbers for Jones this season are impressive, but he’s catching attention in more than one way. The fourth-year star has also earned a reputation for being a top-notch person both on and off the field, and that was further confirmed on Wednesday, as he is New England’s nominee for the 2025 Art Rooney Sportsmanship Award.

Through 12 games, Jones has 50 tackles, three interceptions (one of which he returned for a score), 11 pass deflections and one sack. He’s also been one of the top punt returners in the league, as he’s picked up 234 yards and another score on 16 returns.

Regardless of what happens on the field, though, Jones can be counted on to display exemplary sportsmanship on a weekly basis, which is why he has a shot at winning this award. Jones will look to continue shining in Week 13 when the Patriots take on the New York Giants.
