Silver And Black Pride
There is, no doubt, the Las Vegas Raiders will be looking to draft a quarterback in the near future.
That has been a possibility in the past three drafts, but it never lined up.
Now, the Raiders have to figure when they are going to draft a quarterback as early as possible. the way Geno Smith is playing, it may be best for the team to try to take a quarterback in 2026.
Yet, Raider’s minority owner Tom Brady fueled some speculation recently that the team could opt to wait to the 2027 draft when he heaped high praise on Notre Dame quarterback C.J. Carr, who will be eligible to be drafted in 2027. Brady said Carr is the best quarterback prospect he’s seen since Joe Burrow came out in 2020.
Then, there’s the fact that both Brady and Las Vegas general manager John Spytek played for Carr’s grandfather, Lloyd Carr, at Michigan. So, there’s no doubt, the Raiders will surely look into Carr.
But here’s the reality —- that doesn’t mean much.
There will be a lot of teams interested in Carr if, indeed, he remains a can’t-miss prospect. So, the Raiders have to be in position to get him. So, it’ may be a risk for the team to try to wait for Carr or any prospect for that matter.
Let’s look at some teams that could look to draft a quarterbacks early in the next two drafts, presented in alphabetical order:
Arizona Cardinals:
The Kyler Murray era is probably coming to an end soon. The Cardinals will surely be interested in drafting a quarterback, probably in 2027.
Cleveland Browns:
This is an evergreen connection. The Browns, despite, drafting Dillon Gabriel and Shedeur Sanders this year, will be very likely be looking for young quarterbacks in the next couple of drafts.
Indianapolis Colts:
This is no sure thing, but circle the Colts as a team possibility being in the hunt for a quarterback in 2027. That’s only if Daniel Jones’ implodes in the next year. Always possible.
Jacksonville Jaguars:
This is also a 2027 connection based on a veteran quarterback wearing out his welcome. Trevor Lawrence is supposed to be good. Until he truly becomes good, there is a chance of the Jaguars running out of patience with him.
Los Angeles Rams:
Matthew Stafford is playing like an MVP, but he will be 38 in February. The Rams have multiple first-round picks in 2026. Keep an eye on them being big players in the quarterback draft market.
Miami Dolphins:
Tua Tagovailoa has been playing like someone who is begging to replaced. With the Dolphins a likely candidate to make a head-coaching change in the offseason, it’s reasonable to think the Dolphins could be in the market to draft a quarterback sooner rather than later.
Minnesota Vikings:
This may be a longshot, but if J.J. McCarthy fails to develop by the end of the 2026 season, it will, at least, be a conversation in the 2027 offseason in Minnesota....
