Last month, former NFL running back Adrian Peterson got into a fist fight with a poker player at the Jokerstars social club in Houston, Texas. The whole thing was caught on camera, but now the man who duked it out with the 2012 NFL MVP, Joe “Baby Joe” Castaneda, is sharing what he says led to the scuffle.

According to Castaneda, a professional poker player, the fist fight occurred because Adrian Peterson insulted someone.

“So he had said something to one of my friends that I didn’t really like,” he told TMZ. “So I kind of said something and then when I said something that’s when the melee kind of broke out.”

Castaneda said he can’t remember exactly what made Adrian Peterson insult his friend, but he does recall that when he heard the insult he felt the need to stick up for him.

“My friend’s really not the kind of guy who’s going to stick up for himself,” he said. “So I kind of said something and, but, like, Adrian Peterson said, I mean, like, we do know each other. I mean it’s not like we’re strangers and we had just met each other. We’ve known each other for years now. Played poker many many times together. So yeah, I mean, it’s kind of, he said something to my friend, I said something and it popped off.”

He claims the insult Adrian Peterson hurled at his friend was something that happened in the heat of competition.

“Everybody’s, I mean, trying to win, I guess and yeah, he was he was upset and said something and then I said something. … I really can’t remember exactly what was said, but it was just, you know, an insult and then I said something and yeah, that’s how he reacted.”

Joe Castaneda went on to say that he and Adrian Peterson are such good friends that it was actually a good thing that it was him that he got into a fight with that night.

“To be honest this was kind of like best case scenario if there was going to be a fight for him because nobody at JokerStars is ever going to call the cops on him,” he explained. “And I’m not the kind of guy who’s going to press charges or try to sue him, you know what I mean? So yeah, it pretty much was you know, a fight. We got it out our system. And I mean as soon as I get back from Vegas we should be cool playing poker again.”

Castaneda said that despite AP catching with a punch in the nose that led to “a lot of blood,” it was nothing more than a “good old Texas fight” and that he and Peterson are “good.”
