Jacksonville Jaguars star running back Travis Etienne Jr. has been mentioned heavily in offseason trade rumors as he heads into his contract year, with the Dallas Cowboys often suited as a potential landing spot.

After back-to-back 1,000-yard seasons, Etienne had a down 2024 season that saw him rush for just 558 yards and two touchdowns. Sophomore Tank Bigsby finished the season as the Jaguars’ leading rusher with 766 yards and seven touchdowns.

Last month, Bleacher Report’s Kristopher Knox floated the Cowboys as a possible trade destination for Travis Etienne. Knox cited the uncertainty that free agent signings Javonte Williams and Miles Sanders bring as the top two RBs on the depth chart.

But according to longtime Cowboys reporter Mike Fisher of Athlon Sports, a team source said any rumors about the club exploring a trade for a running back are “false.” Fisher also doesn’t expect Dallas to add another RB until they’ve seen them in action at training camp.

A Lisfranc injury forced Etienne to miss his entire rookie season, but he looked like a star at full strength over the next two years. Travis Etienne’s fifth-year option was picked up by the Jaguars last offseason, so we’ll see how he produces in what is likely his final season in Duval County.

Travis Etienne Should Be A Hot Trade Candidate If Jaguars Are Out Of Playoff Race

The Jaguars may as well enter the regular-season with Etienne and Bigsby in the backfield together. Trevor Lawrence, Brian Thomas Jr. and Travis Hunter will lead the way in the passing game, but an Etienne-Bigsby RB tandem could add another element to this offense.

But if Jacksonville is out of the playoff race leading up to the trade deadline, expect them to shop and trade Etienne. He’s shown the ability to be a No. 1 RB, and Etienne could make a difference on a Super Bowl hopeful.
