Travel back in time about a month ago when the Los Angeles Rams traded for Myles Garrett. Garrett was formally introduced to L.A. during a press conference and one of the media members said the quiet part out loud for L.A. when they described not winning the upcoming Super Bowl as a “major disappointment”.
Perhaps that’s a take that’s not even quiet.
Said the reporter at the time:
“Going from a work in progress with this Cleveland team…to coming to this team that is the favorite to win the Super Bowl, and anything less than that would be a major disappointment…”
Sean McVay then interjected to say, “Damn, that’s how you really feel, huh?”
The McVay quip was met with major laughs throughout the room, but the laughs don’t take away from a major reality. The Rams are expected by many to the win the Super Bowl this year. Anything less will likely be looked at as a “major disappointment”.
A team coming off a NFC Championship appearance doesn’t retain MVP Matthew Stafford, trade for Trent McDuffie, trade for Myles Garrett, keep a successful offensive core together, revamp their secondary and special teams unit just to fall short of the Super Bowl. The Rams made those moves to improve upon what they accomplished last season.
In order to be more successful in 2026, the Rams need to make and or win the Super Bowl to outpace what they accomplished in 2025. Even if the Rams appear in the Super Bowl and lose, the season will likely be looked at as a letdown.
Great expectations in Los Angeles as the pressure is on, and that’s what the Rams have set themselves up for. It’s Super Bowl or bust. Anything less can be argued as a “major disappointment”.
