Let’s see how the conference title game plays out in the EA Universe.
Here’s what happened in our simulation:
Kansas City Chiefs defensive linemen Chris Jones and Mike Danna made it look easy getting to Buffalo Bills quarterback Josh Allen, as they both recorded sacks.
End of the first quarter: Bills 0, Chiefs 0
Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs’ offense found their rhythm on a nine-play drive. DeAndre Hopkins made a crucial third-down catch to set up first-and-goal.
On the next play, the Chiefs finally put the first points on the board with a 4-yard touchdown pass to Hollywood Brown.
Allen recognized man coverage on the following drive and fired a fastball to rookie wide receiver Keon Coleman for a field-flipping 43-yard catch-and-run.
The Bills leaned on the legs of James Cook and Allen to reach the 1-yard line. Dalton Kincaid ran an out route and found himself open in the end zone for the game-tying touchdown.
Travis Kelce started to heat up on the next Chiefs drive. He made a leaping grab over Matt Milano for his first catch of the game and helped push the Chiefs into the red zone at the Bills’ 10-yard line.
However, the drive stalled, and Kansas City settled for a successful Harrison Butker field goal.
Under the two-minute warning, the Bills wasted no time moving the ball. Two receptions by Amari Cooper and a 34-yard bullet pass to Khalil Shakir got them into the red zone.
Coleman caught the go-ahead touchdown on a slant route, putting the Bills ahead late in the game.
The Bills left 44 seconds on the clock, which is plenty of time for Mahomes to make something happen. However, Mahomes’ pass intended for Brown was intercepted by linebacker Matt Milano, putting the Bills in field-goal range.
On the Bills’ first play, Allen’s deep shot to the end zone was intercepted by Chamarri Conner — and no team could score before halftime.
End of the second quarter: Bills 14, Chiefs 10
The Bills’ first drive out of halftime looked laser-focused. Khalil Shakir hauled a 27-yard gain to put Buffalo in the red zone.
The Chiefs’ defense tightened up. On third-and-3, Nick Bolton stopped Cook short of the marker, forcing a fourth down.
Allen called his own number – keeping the ball on a read option and waltzing into the end zone to extend the lead to two possessions.
End of the third quarter: Bills 21, Chiefs 10
DeAndre Hopkins dropped a crucial third-down pass that would have been a first down deep in Buffalo territory. Harrison Butker continued his consistent performance, knocking down another field goal to bring the game back to a one-score contest.
