Mac Jones is 1-0 as the starting quarterback for the San Francisco 49ers. He is three more wins away from a unique financial bonus attached to a very specific contract incentive.
The only question is whether he has enough time to get there.
With every week of the NFL season that goes by, it gives Brock Purdy another week to get healthy. At what point would the 49ers be willing to keep their $262 million signal-caller on the bench?
It might sound silly but Jones needs to win as many games as possible in as little time as possible. San Francisco would obviously love nothing more than to go undefeated. You’re always trying to win. I know.
That’s not what I am talking about.
Purdy is expected to miss anywhere between two and five weeks with a variant of turf toe and a minor issue with his non-throwing shoulder. “Next week will be tight,” said Adam Schefter on Sunday morning.
Jones will be the starter in his absence. The former No. 15 overall pick completed 26 of 36 pass attempts for 279 yards and three touchdowns without an interception in his 49ers debut. He threw darts.
