T.J. Watt is currently in a Pittsburgh Hospital after being taken there from the team facility on Wednesday. The issue has been called a “lung issue” which occurred during routine treatment at the team facility. The fact that he has been there roughly 24 hours now does not bode well for his availability in this week’s game.
We’ve been told the National Football League Players Association has been notified of the situation and is in contact with representatives of Watt. The last thing I’m going to do is speculate as to what the exact issue is but it’s clearly serious enough that the team medical experts felt he should be hospitalized. There have been incidents in the past where players had something go wrong during routine treatment.
In 2020, a team physician with the Los Angeles Chargers punctured the lung of QB Tyrod Taylor during a fairly routine injection of painkiller. Taylor was in the hospital and missed several games with a collapsed lung. Again, I’m not stating that this is what has occurred with Watt, but I’m merely trying to connect some possible dots.
Watt currently has seven sacks on the season and one interception. As far as I can recall, Watt has not been on the injury report for anything recently other than his typical rest days. To this point there has been no determination about his status for Monday Night’s important AFC Matchup with the Miami Dolphins in Pittsburgh.
