The Cincinnati Bengals’ offensive line could use all the help it can get.
Now it will be getting back the man who opened the season as the starter at right guard, veteran Lucas Patrick, who was on IR with a calf injury.
Patrick had a solid debut against the Cleveland Browns before going down.
Since then, Dalton Risner tried his hand at filling in but struggled. In recent weeks, it has been rookie Jalen Rivers who has started, and he’s been a bit of an upgrade.
Whenever Patrick is ready to go, it is unlikely he’ll replace Rivers.
The left side of the line, though, still has a ton of question marks.
Dylan Fairchild, the starter at left guard, has gone through his share of growing pains and is now also dealing with an injury of his own.
So it’s not entirely impossible to imagine the team plugging in a veteran like Patrick to try to save the season, should he show that he can provide a spark in practice.
The Bengals are in desperation mode, as evidenced by an uncharacteristic trade for 40-year-old QB Joe Flacco yesterday.
We talked about how much of a difference the move will make in the video below.
