They’ve faced plenty of adversity along the way, but the Los Angeles Chargers are still off to a 4-3 start. Yet, three of those losses have come in the past four games. Losing their top two running backs due to injuries has surely played a huge factor in their recent string of losses.
With Najee Harris and Omarion Hampton both ruled out, the Chargers have been forced to go deeper in the ranks to test their RB depth. Yet, now even fourth-string running back Hassan Haskins is dealing with an injury.
With Harris out for the season and Hampton still on injured reserve, the Chargers may have to get proactive to create a spark in their running game. That could mean they need to make a deal before the NFL’s Nov. 4 trade deadline.
According to ESPN’s Matt Bowen and Jeremy Fowler, one name for Chargers fans to keep an eye on is New York Jets star Breece Hall. Yet, Hall has already indicated that he has no interest in being traded from the Jets, and they may not be motivated to strike a deal either. Of course, both stances could change as the losses mount.
If the Jets keep losing, we don’t see why the team wouldn’t consider trading players who may not be a big part of their future. Yet, Hall very much could be in the team’s future plans, even if neither side is ready to reach an extension right now.
In the final season of his rookie contract, Hall will presumably have a chance to test the open market once the offseason kicks off. If Hall still wants to be in New York once the season ends, the Jets will get the first chance to negotiate a new contract at a fair price.
If no deal is reached, Hall will find someone who does value him the way he wants. Yet, that’s why the Jets may be wise to consider the best offers available now, before they risk losing him for nothing later on.
