For better or worse, Los Angeles Chargers head coach Jim Harbaugh is truly one of a kind. Whether it’s his uniquely Harbaughian style of humor, or wearing khaki pants while taking a dip in a cold tub, there is never a dull moment when Jim Harbaugh is the coach of your football team.
But perhaps the strangest thing about Harbaugh is his dietary habits. At one point in his coaching tenure at Michigan, we wouldn’t eat chicken and advised his players not because it was – and we quote – a “nervous bird.”
“He thinks some type of sickness injected its way into the human population when people began eating white meats instead of beef and pork,” former Michigan QB Wilton Speight said via Bleacher Report. “And he believes it, 100 percent.”
Harbaugh has since backtracked on that stance, however, after purchasing baby chicks and raising them for their egg production.
“I know there was a time I said that chicken was a nervous bird and I don’t eat chicken, I only eat meat. I was dead wrong. I stand corrected. These chickens are low-maintenance and high-production,” he said.
But that doesn’t mean that Harbaugh is entirely normal when it comes to food. In fact, chicken has become one of his favorite meals. Los Angeles Chargers dietician Ben Hawkins recently sat down and revealed some the players and coaches’ favorite foods.
Harbaugh, specifically, supposedly loves chicken tenders, Uncrustables and a halftime hot dog. Now listen, all of those are delicious. I love chicken tenders and a good glizzy and PB&J will never lead you astray. But you know who else loves those things? My 10-year-old second cousin.
Granted, children love foods like burgers and pizza because they’re delicious. But it’s very funny that a man like Jim Harbaugh, at his big age and with access to anything he wants, goes to tendies and Uncrustables.
Never change, Jim.
