The Pittsburgh Steelers have promised to make their defense less vanilla in the 2025 season, but fr a variety of reasons, we didn’t get to see a lot of that during the preseason. T.J. Watt didn’t play, and Alex Highsmith (groin) and Nick Herbig (hamstring) both missed most of the preseason with injuries.

So we didn’t see them flipping the sides of the edge rushers, as promised. We also — as usual — didn’t see much in the way of exotic blitzes during the preseason. So should we take the Steelers at their word that this defense is entering the season with some tricks up its sleeve?
