A former wide receiver of the Pittsburgh Steelers is signing with the Detroit Lions.
Former Pittsburgh Steelers wide receiver Tarik Black is signing with the Detroit Lions, according to James Larsen of Pro Football Newsroom.
Black, along with three other former Steelers — offensive lineman Kellen Diesch and safeties Quindell Johnson and Kenny Robinson — recently became UFL champions as members of the Louisville Kings, who defeated the DC Defenders 27-20 in the United Bowl III at Audi Field in Washington, D.C.
Black caught one of four targets — a 40-yard reception that set up a Louisville field goal in the third quarter.
Black first joined the Steelers last July as a pre-training camp tryout, after rookie Roman Wilson suffered an ankle injury. He had been playing well at the time, and had made a quick positive impression in just a few weeks with the team.
However, he suffered a hamstring injury that eventually caused him to be waived with an injury designation on Aug. 13. Black cleared waivers the next day, reverting to the injured reserve list.
An undrafted free agent in the 2021 NFL Draft, Black has also spent time with the Indianapolis Colts (2021), New York Jets (2021-22), Baltimore Ravens (2022-23) and Miami Dolphins (2024-25). He recorded his only catch, which went for 10 yards, with the Jets in 2021.
Black played for Michigan the first three years of his collegiate career. There he racked up 40 catches for 507 yards and two touchdowns.
In 2020, he transferred to Texas, where he had 10 receptions for 240 yards and one touchdown in eight games and one start.
