The Detroit Lions will be without one of their rookies for the season, as Kendrick Law tore his ACL during a non-contact drill, according to Tim Twentyman.
“Dan Campbell said rookie WR Kendrick Law tore his ACL at practice on Tuesday,” Twentyman wrote on X, formerly Twitter.
Law was selected in the fifth round of the NFL draft after playing at Kentucky last season. He had 53 receptions for 540 yards and three touchdowns in 12 games with the Wildcats.
“Hate it for him,” Campbell said via Richard Silva of The Detroit News. “The kid was doing a good job. But it’s part of it. It’s (a) harsh reality, but he’ll get it out of the way early, have his whole career in front of him.”
Law was set to be a key piece of their receiver depth, especially with the Lions trading up for him in the draft. As of now, they’ll roll out Amon-Ra St. Brown, Jameson Williams, and Issac TeSlaa as the top three receivers. It’s uncertain who will fill out the group after that, but the Lions will have options.
The Lions were recently criticized for continuing to trade up for players in the draft, something they haven’t been shy about doing.
“At some point, though, the Lions have to be more conservative and trust that players are going to fall to them,” ESPN’s Bill Barnwell wrote. “They have to consider trading down to amass more selections, something Holmes hasn’t done since trading down from No. 6 to No. 12 in the 2023 draft as part of the deal that landed him Gibbs and LaPorta.”
