Lions injury updates: Terrion Arnold, 2 others return, Kerby Joseph sits

The Detroit Lions are back on the practice field on Wednesday for joint practices with the Miami Dolphins. As the activities get underway, there were a few positive early injury notes from practice, including the return of starting cornerback Terrion Arnold (hamstring), rookie edge rusher Ahmed Hassanein (lower leg), and second-year running back Sione Vaki (hamstring). Unfortunately, safety Kerby Joseph was reportedly not suited up for practice, per our own Jeremy Reisman.

At his morning press conference, Lions coach Dan Campbell gave injury updates on all three players that returned; however, it initially didn’t sound like positive news for Arnold:

I don’t see T.A. (Terrion Arnold) in these (joint practices). He’s getting better and doing more every day, but I don’t see him being able to go through these practices. We’re going to be shooting for next week.

With Arnold dressed and taking part in individual drills, it’s likely that Campbell was referencing Arnold being restricted from the team portion of joint practices.

As for Hassanein, who left practice early on Monday, and Vaki, who has been dealing with a hamstring injury all camp, they’re expected to be returning to full practices, based on Campbell’s press conference.

Campbell on Hassanein:

Ahmed (Hassanein) should be out there today. It was just a little bit of a scare (on Monday). So, he should be out there working, which is good.

Campbell on Vaki:

The plan is for Vaki to be out there today. He’s going to get some individuals, some group, and we’re going to put him in a couple team reps to see how he adjusts. See what he can handle, and if he can handle it, then see if he can get a little more and a little more. So, he’s, as of today, ready to start doing some stuff.

As for Joseph, it’s unclear why he is not participating in practice, but it’s worth noting that he only returned to practice last week, and this could be an extended precautionary period.

For updates on these and all other injury-related news, we’ll have a post-practice injury report as well as observations from Wednesday’s practice later on Pride of Detroit.
