Lions injury report: Updates on Kerby Joseph, Tim Patrick
Pride of Detroit Pride of Detroit

The Detroit Lions have entered their final week of preseason preparation, as they will hold two in-house practices on Monday and Tuesday, before welcoming in the Houston Texans on Thursday for a joint practice on Thursday and then hosting them at Ford Field for the preseason finale on Saturday.

Monday was Day 15 of Lions training camp, and we have all the latest updates on the players’ injuries and their current statuses.

Activated from injury list:

  • CB Khalil Dorsey (PUP)

Dorsey was activated from the PUP on Monday and will begin practicing. According to Lions coach Dan Campbell, Dorsey’s week will start out with individual and group work, and he will work towards team drills as the week progresses. It’s still unclear if he’ll play against the Texans, “but this is a step in the right direction” for him returning in time for the regular season.

Still on injury lists:

  • G Miles Frazier (PUP)
  • DT Alim McNeill (PUP)
  • DL Mekhi Wingo (PUP)
  • EDGE Josh Paschal (NFI)
  • LB Malcolm Rodriguez (PUP)

McNeill, Wingo, and Rodriguez were all spotted on the practice field working with trainers, indicating they are continuing to progress through their rehabilitation. Campbell tabbed Wingo as a potential September return, while McNeill and Rodriguez are expected to be out until October.

Not practicing on Monday:

  • WR Malik Taylor (undisclosed)
  • TE Sam LaPorta (undisclosed)
  • OL Trystan Colon (elbow)
  • EDGE Ahmed Hassanein (pec) — “going to be down for a while”
  • SAF Kerby Joseph (undisclosed)
  • SAF Morice Norris (concussion)

We got updates from Campbell on several of these players on Monday. Here’s what he had to say about each:

Campbell on Hassanein:

Campbell: Ahmed is going to be down for a while. He’s got a pec.

Question: Will he be placed on IR?

Campbell: It’s a good question. I don’t have that answer yet.

Campbell on Joseph:

Yeah, it’s something he’s been dealing with a little bit. So, he won’t be out there today. We’re hoping to get him back late in the week, that’s the hope right now. We don’t feel like it’s a major problem, it’s just something we’re trying to manage right now and get it calmed down.

Campbell on Norris playing this season:

That’s TBD right now. We’re being very thorough with this, and he’s doing well. He’s doing good, right now, but I don’t even want to go that far. I just know he’s down today. and we’ll keep going.

Return to practice/status change

  • WR Tim Patrick (undisclosed)
  • OT Giovanni Manu (undisclosed)

After not practicing for about a week, Patrick was back on the field on Monday and practicing in full. He continues to run with the second team but did find the end zone in a red zone drill. With multiple Lions rookie wide receivers making lots of noise in practices and games, any good performances from Patrick should remind...
