The Detroit Lions and Miami Dolphins will hold two joint practices this week, the first of which was held on Wednesday, Day 13 of Lions’ training camp. Injuries have been at the forefront of most Lions fans’ minds this offseason, and we have all the latest updates on the players’ statuses.
This group has been working with trainers throughout camp—save McNeill—but none are expected to return to practice this week.
Joseph had been nursing an injury in the early parts of camp, but was practicing in full last week. Joseph didn’t appear to suffer an injury during Monday’s practice, so it’s unclear if something happened since then, or if this was a precautionary rest period. We hope to get more information from coach Dan Campbell on Thursday.
Some potential good news for the Lions receiver group, as all three wide receivers were working with trainers off to the side of practice. Patrick and Kennedy have been dealing with undisclosed injuries, but Lovett appears to be “on time” with his recovery, which originally anticipated him missing roughly 10 days.
As for the rest of the players, O’Connor was injured roughly a week ago and is expected to begin practicing soon, Colon is expected to be out for a while, and Norris is expected to be reevaluated for a concussion in roughly two weeks, per Campbell on Monday.
Sutherland was taken off the field on a cart after struggling to get to his feet. Eventually, he was able to make it on the cart and did not return. Bootle is reportedly dealing with a lower leg injury, according to a statement from the team. Members of the media did not catch what happened to Bootle.
Something to keep an eye on: Kalif Raymond was walking gingerly while the entire team exited the field.
Vaki injured his hamstring on the second day of training camp, and the team has been very cautious with his rehabilitation. He returned to practice at one point, only to sit again, and has not played in a preseason game. However, based on Campbell’s statement from his Wednesday morning press conference, Vaki may be turning a corner in his rehabilitation.
