Let’s Chat: What is your favorite Seahawks play of all time?
Field Gulls Field Gulls

Once again, you can only choose one.

It’s the 50th season of Seattle Seahawks football, which means we’re going to be loading up with a lot of discussion posts this offseason looking back at Seattle’s franchise history! While most of the discussion will be positive we will sprinkle in some negativity and unwanted memories.

Today is not one of those days for negativity!

Based on the comments from Monday’s open thread, it looks like Kam Chancellor is the predominant choice for favorite Seahawks player of all time. Let’s broaden the scope a bit and focus on your favorite Seahawks play of all time. As was the case yesterday, you can only choose one play, and your rationale is completely up to you. Kam wrecking Vernon Davis on Jim Harbaugh’s birthday? All good. Percy Harvin might not have been the most popular Seahawk in the world but if his kick return TD in the Super Bowl is your number one because it pretty much shut the door on any Denver Broncos comeback, then submit that as your answer. Chris Carson flipping over a Carolina Panthers defender and just about landing on his feet? Sure! Shaun Alexander executing an 80-yard screen pass touchdown as part of his five-touchdown game against the Minnesota Vikings? Honestly, that should be the default answer.

My selection is Beastquake. Were the 2010 Seahawks a pretty bad team fortunate to win one of the worst divisions ever? Hell yeah! But it was a playoff game in year one of Pete Carroll’s rebuild, one which was hardly universally praised at the time. There was talk on this here site about losing to the St. Louis Rams in order to attain a better draft pick. Then they were given no chance against the reigning Super Bowl champion New Orleans Saints. Seattle way overperformed and went up 34-20 only for the lead to slip to 34-30. Was it too good to be true? The Seahawks needed to kill clock and Marshawn Lynch hadn’t been exactly dominant up to that point.

“Crowd silent now as opposed to when the Saints have the ball...”

The rest is history. The greatest run of Seahawks football began with this play in one of the great upsets in the history of the NFL Playoffs. Marshawn turned into a legend, while the Seahawks sowed the seeds of title contention with one monumental run.
