In our “Let’s Argue” series, our Mark Gunnels considers the hot takes, wacky predictions and unpopular opinions of Kansas City Chiefs fans from all over the world.
If you weren’t aware, the Chiefs are on the verge of making history. With a win against the Philadelphia Eagles, they’ll become the first team to win three straight Super Bowls.
Even if the Chiefs lose Super Bowl LIX on Sunday, the legacies of guys like Kelce, head coach Andy Reid and quarterback Patrick Mahomes will remain unchanged. They’re made men.
Still, we must wonder whether this will be the tight end’s last game. Nobody truly knows what he will do. I’m not even sure Kelce even knows right now.
The fact that Kelce has been open about discussing the possibility of retirement lets you know it’s on his mind. But he’s also left room for optimism.
“Hopefully still playing football,” he said of his plans three years from now. “I love doing this, I love coming into work every day. I feel like I still have a lot of good football left in me. We’ll see what happens. I know I’ve been setting myself up for other opportunities in my life. That’s always been the goal knowing football only lasts for so long. You must find a way to get into another career and another profession. I’ve been doing that in my offseason. But for the most part, I plan on being a Kansas City Chief and playing football.”
Only time will tell.
It’s no secret Caliendo is the weak link of the offensive line. Fortunately, the Houston Texans and Buffalo Bills were better on the edges.
But going against Philadelphia, Caliendo could face All-Pro defensive tackle Jalen Carter.
Interestingly, Carter took more than 90% of this season’s snaps lined up over the right guard — who would be Trey Smith on Sunday. Unlike Kansas City defensive coordinator Steve Spagnuolo, the Eagles’ Vic Fangio sticks to his base defense; it would be very uncharacteristic for him to switch things up. That should benefit the Chiefs’ offensive line.
Nonetheless, you’d better believe Reid and his coaching staff will be prepared for any scenario.
This is a perfect example of stats not telling the entire story.
When you look at yards per carry, Hunt and starting running back Isiah Pacheco are practically identical. But when you actually watch the film, it’s clear Hunt has been the better back.
Maybe it comes from his time off — or maybe it was getting a second chance with the Chiefs. But whatever the cause, there’s a bounce in Hunt’s step.
While he isn’t the player he was in 2018, he still has a nose...
