A photo of the old RFK Stadium being demolished is doing the rounds on social media.

The former stomping grounds of the Washington Redskins is part of the broader RFK Campus, which includes The Fields sports complex.

The demolition has been ongoing for some time, but is being done gradually to minimize noise, dust, and other disturbances. The teardown began in January following a period of remediation and non-structural destruction.

Crews have taken off major components such as the roof, light towers, and ramps, going stage by stage instead of a single implosion for the abovementioned reasons.

The works have entered a more visible phase this month. Crews are now removing structural elements such as upper-deck seating, roof sections, and concrete ramps, using special equipment to cut and dismantle steel beams instead of brute force.

The people handling this remain careful to cause as little disruption as possible, using dust suppression systems and noise monitoring stations to minimize the impact on the surroundings.

Old RFK Stadium Site Nearing Approval For Redevelopment As First Vote Goes Through

The D.C. Council approved the first vote on a $3.7 million redevelopment plan for the RFK site despite President Trump’s threats.

The POTUS has tried to back the Commanders into a corner, demanding that they revert to the old Redskins moniker or he will do what he can to prevent approval, but it doesn’t appear to have slowed anything yet.

The second and final vote is scheduled for September 17. If it passes, the new stadium and other development plans will have been greenlit.
